Avoid the Ordinary with an Alabama Metal Art Business Sign

Recently, in our weekly staff meeting we came up with our credo “Avoid the Ordinary.”  We want our customers to know we are here to provide extraordinary customer service. We are NOT Ordinary.

What is the Right Choice for Your Business

A Custom Sign is a significant investment for any business.  We, at Alabama Metal Art, commit to furnish you as a customer, a sound solution to meet your business requirements.  Our designers Chris, Robert, and Logan will have numerous questions for you.  They want to ensure they have a complete picture of what you need.  We will make the entire process as painless as possible.

Why A Metal Art Business Sign

We as consumers have so many choices in today’s marketplace.  Because of this Alabama Metal Art strives to provide the best customer service, a quality product at an affordable price.  Metal Business signs are not cheap, but are affordable for the quality and look you get from having one.  Whether your sign is crafted from carbon steel or aluminum the main characteristic is durability.  If you are considering a business sign for the outside environment the longevity of a metal sign will outlast acrylic, PVC, or wood.  Indoors, these metal signs will last for decades.

Versatility in Metal

Many of our metal business signs are manufactured from 1/8″ metal.  However, you have the option to use a thinner metal depending upon your application.  This is something we take into consideration when making a multiple layer sign.  All our designs are cut out on our CNC laser which provides you with significant versatility when purchasing a custom sign. By using the CNC laser, we can do something as simple as cut out letters or something as complex as a multi-layer sign.  By mixing styles, or layers we can create something which will make your business stand out.  We want your customer to have a lasting impression of your custom sign.

Logo’s Anyone

One part of our design process, we find both challenging and enjoyable is incorporating your logo into the design of the sign.  Sometimes a simple stencil cut is sufficient.  Clemmons & Hammer Seed, Inc. is a strong example of this.  The wall which this sign is mounted to will show through adding to the appearance of the business sign. stratxIT is an example where the logo required some color.  We incorporated several different backplates to show through the stencil to produce the desired look for this logo. RocketCity Chiropractic takes a stylized cut out of the logo mounted directly to the wall. We will work with you to get the perfect look to show off your business logo.

Let’s Add Powder to the Mix

By adding the option of a powder coat finish, Alabama Metal Art can offer you even more options.  Powder coating comes in crinkles, wrinkles, leatherettes, veins, hammertones and antique textured finishes.  Combinations of these textures potentially can make your sign more dynamic.  The RIPFIT Sign we did for an Indoor Cycling & Cardio Fitness Facility in Bluebell, PA. is a great example of this.  The black base of this sign is done in a mini texture with a standard smooth white showing through as a backplate.  The RIPFIT lettering is finished in a Silver Hammertone with the gloves and the cycle finished in a gloss red.  You can see how the layers and different textures in this sign add to the professional look of this sign.  Too say the least the combinations of texture and styles are numerous.

Let Nature Help

Another option is to allow nature to “age” the metal and another dynamic to your sign.  Walter’s Point and Ava’s Place are examples you may want to consider.  In both cases the back plates are unfinished and are left to rust.  As you can see this adds a rustic interest to these signs.  It may be a technique you wish to incorporate into your design.

Finally, as you can see there are many styles, colors and textures that can be part of your custom business sign.  Here are a few things to consider when working with us to create the perfect sign for you:

  • What finished size do you want your business sign to be
  • Will your business sign be inside or outside?
  • Do you have a logo or existing design concept you want us to use?
  • Will weight play into the design of your business sign?
    • Carbon Steel
    • Aluminum
  • Where will the sign be mounted?
    • Will it Require Holes
    • Do you want the mounting holes to be hidden?
    • Do you want it to be set off the wall (spacers)?
  • Have you seen a style on our website that appeals to you?
    • Stencil Cut with or without a backplate
    • Individual letters
    • A multiple layer sign
  • What colors are you considering?
    • Do you want to include texture?
    • Do you want the metal to age in the elements?
  • What is the zip code of where we will ship your sign?

If you are just exploring your options or are already to get going on your Business Sign, give us a call today.  If it is after hours feel free to email us your ideas and requirements to info@alabamametalart.com  We look forward to supplying your with a one of a kind custom business sign.

Court Street Market – A Jewel of a Place

Court Street Market Business Letters by Alabama Metal Art, Metal Business Sign, Custom Business Sign

Recently we took a break from our busy day and went for a visit to A Jewel of a Place located in downtown, Florence, Alabama – Court Street Market.  We were immediately greeting by the two creative forces of this operation, Carmen and Kai-Uwe Erdman.  Being a beautiful day we were able to sit out at the sidewalk cafe with its newly installed ironwork.  As we sat enjoying the company with a treat from the Woodpecker Cafe we were soon greeted by Nickie Campbell, the owner of  the Renaissance Olive Oil Company which is part if the Court Street Market.  After a few minutes we could see why Court Street Market is such a great place to gather.

Court Street Market – the Beginning

The market place opened in August of 2014.  Carmen Erdman had a vision to create a place where local vendors and artists could display their talents in an welcoming atmosphere.  If you should be lucky enough to find Carmen in the market place during a visit you will find yourself greeted as if you were a long lost friend.  In every corner of this market you will see Southern Hospitality in action.

At the Woodpecker Cafe you will find delicious pastries, a substantial list of hot beverages, and many breakfast and lunch items .  Find a seat in the market place or outside at the open air tables. The menu is continually evolving so it is a guarantee you will find something delicious to temp your taste buds.  On our visit we were presented with the opportunity to taste some hand stirred ice-cream. It was fantastic!

Many of the employees of the Cafe are culinary students from the University of North Alabama, right here in Florence.  The Cafe has become a great place for them to spread their wings and try new food ideas.  Carmen is the great cheerleader of this group and has many cooking ideas to guide them in as well.

More Jewels

When you visit the Court Street Market you are always in for a delight.  There are so many interesting products to see and select.  If you like a wide variety of wine, you have The Wine Seller.  The Renaissance Olive Oil Company has a large unique collection of Olive Oils and Vinegar’s.  Hidden in the corner are local grass fed meats which are excellent ( I speak that from my recent and past purchases).

For the coffee connoisseur Lyons Coffee Roasters is worth checking out.  I, who am a decaf coffee expert, was blown away by their Decaf Select Origin Columbia Coffee.  It has so much flavor for a decaf!

A Design Studio Sign

At Alabama Metal Art we enjoy new challenges to create business signs. Our goal is to create exceptional, unique signs for our customers.  Recently we had the pleasure to create A Design Studio Sign for Pillar & Peacock.  Using Pillar & Peacock’s design ideas we worked together to provide a successful solution.

Pillar & Peacock

Pillar and Peacock Interiors, a bi-coastal design studio in Florence, Alabama, and Irvington, Virginia.  Pillar & Peacock collaborate with private homes and businesses working with a variety of design styles.  Some examples in their project portfolio include The Mount Airy Plantation, The Grove Park Inn and the Cardiovascular Institute.  Most of all Brandeis Short, of the Florence office, was a pleasure to work with on this project.

The Process

First of all, the image above shows the Pillar & Peacock design overlay in process.  After the metal comes off the laser, sharp edges must be ground down.     Individual letters are mounted to the backplate.  Spacers are used to give depth to the sign.  A close up of the design is shown below.  The pattern is precise because the laser is controlled by a downloaded computer program.

Click on the image below for a larger view.  Also, in the close up  you can see the letter supports which are designed to be part of the backplate.  We use this method to ensure the precision of the Design Studio Sign.  This method also increases the overall stability of the piece.

Finally, the image below is showing the wall in the Pillar & Peacock office prior to the Design Studio Sign being installed (overlay).  The wall was painted with a gloss white and the overlay is powder coated in a matte white finish. This tone on tone technique adds further dimension to the overall look of this design.

The finished presentation looks great.  Finished size of the overlay is 45.75″ wide by 90.75″ tall.   Pillar & Peacock choose the lettering color to match their existing branding.

This final image shows all the characteristics of the finished product.  Light shining off the wall highlights the gloss finish. The dimension of the overlay is accented by shadowing.  We recommend Pillar & Peacock for your design project, large or small. This project was a great experience.

A Multi Layered Sign by Alabama Metal Art

RIPFIT Indoor Cycling and Boxing Circuit Blue Bell, PA

A Multi Layered Business Sign will bring dimensional attention to a business.  Adding several layers to your sign you can target certain focal areas that you wish to stand out.  A good example would be to add an extra layer with your logo.  You want your sign to grab the potential customer and make a great first impression.  In the illustration above, “RIPFIT,” the sign uses their business logo.

The “Envy – A Salon” above uses layers powder coated two colors of blue.  The light blue as a background against the navy makes the sign standout.  Color is a dependable way to add interest to your sign.  Each color of this sign is a different layer.

A Multi Layered Sign – Simple and Complex Designs

A Multi layered sign can be simple or it can be complex.  Each individual layer can be coated with different powder colors for many effects.   Combining different layers with other styles is a good way to amplify the visibility of your sign.  Both illustrations above are great samples of what can be accomplished with layers.

The above sign for “One Place” is an fine representation of multi layered signage.  The Logo is made up of three colors.  Here again the use of color makes the sign stand out.  The customer chose to use raised letters for the balance of the sign.  Signs can consist of one style or when appropriate, a mix different styles.  In this example the components where mounted directly to the outside of the building.
A Multi Layered Sign for Sorella Farms, Farm signs, business signs

Sorella Farms, located in the beautiful countryside of Evington, Virginia, is a place of celebration for weddings, receptions, and other special events.  This beautiful sign incorporated their logo using several different layers of metal.  This provided the pallet for both color and dimension.
