Powder Coating is One Reason
One of the things that sets Alabama Metal Art apart from other metal art companies is the use of a technique called powder coating. While we keep several decorative color choices in stock, we can also special order powder from literally thousands of color selections – how’s that for options? This gives us the ability to closely match or coordinate with most any color you could imagine.
What is Powder coating? According to Wikipedia.com, it is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied, as a powder, electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a “skin”. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating metals.
There are several advantages of this method of coating over conventional liquid coatings:
1. Powder emits zero or near zero volatile organic compounds (VOC).
2. Powder can produce much thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running or sagging.
3. Powder coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than conventional liquid coatings.
4. Coated items generally have fewer appearance differences between horizontally coated surfaces and vertically coated surfaces than liquid coated items.
A wide range of specialty effects can be accomplished which would be impossible to achieve with other coating processes.
At Alabama Metal Art, we offer you the most environmentally friendly option while providing the best overall coverage for your beautiful piece of artwork.
